GAIL Indian Speedstar athletic event was Sunday held in Baramulla where aspiring athletes from various parts of North Kashmir participated in the event.

The event organized by National Yuva Cooperative Society in coordination with the district administration was flagged-off by SSP Baramulla, reads an official statement.

Speaking on the occasion, the SSP highlighted the importance of sports activities and said, “Such events help in shaping overall physical and mental growth of youngsters.” He hailed the organizers for conducting such events.

‘GAIL Indian Speedstar’, a project of National Yuva Cooperative Society, aims to spot, screen, select and groom young athletes in the age group of 11-17 years in 100m, 200m and 400m track events across India, reads statement.

It was given out that 750 athletes from Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts of North Kashmir participated in the event, while as 70 athletes among them will take part in similar events at the regional level.

“Pertinently, best athletes in racing events will be part of focused training programme, to make them capable of representing India at the 2020 summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo, Japan,” reads the stament.
