Protests erupted in Ganderbal on Tuesday when people took out to streets against what they said, not fulfilling the promises government had made for selling out the land for newly established Central University.

Eyewitnesses told a local news agency, KNS that people from Kurhama village indulged in ding dong battles with police on Tuesday demanding government employment for those who have given away their land for the CU.

The protests were held on a day when Chief Minster along with Union Minister Palam Raju laid the foundation stone of the University in the area.

“Government had promised us compensation and a job for giving away our land for the construction purpose. We did get the compensation but were cheated by the authorities on account of the employment issue,” the protestors told KNS.

They added that they were handed over orders for 89 day job, “which was clearly a breach of trust and promise.”

Reports from the area said that the battles between protestors and Police were continued till evening.
