A day after the killing of a local militant in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, a complete shutdown is being observed to mourn the death of a newly recruited local militant.

An eyewitness said that all the shops and other business establishments are closed and traffic is also off the roads.

Earlier, two militants, one of them a student of M.Tech who had joined militant ranks only a couple of days back, were killed in a brief shootout with government forces in South Kashmir Shopian district on Saturday.

The two slain militants were identified as Rahil Rashid Sheikh of Nunner Ganderbal and Bilal Ahmad resident of Keegam, Shopian.

Rahil, acceding to sources was pursuing M.Tech in a college at Chandigarh and had gone missing last week. He had joined militant ranks on April 3. Both the slain militants were affiliated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit.

Reports also said that heavy deployment of the government forces was seen at various sensitive points in the district to avoid any untoward incident.
