Earlier, the former chief minister of J&K and National Conference Vice present who was heading towards the Uri area of Baramulla district today termed it a “mindless” order because of its inconveniences which lead people to suffer.

“Driving to Uri I’m getting to see first hand the extent of disruption & inconvenience that is being caused to people because of the mindless highway closure order that is in place today,” Omar tweeted.

Pertinently, the history’s first bi-weekly highway lockdown started from wee hours of Sunday. An eyewitness said that there was no movement of civil traffic witnessed except the government forces convoy movement.

The government has notified two dedicated days in a week Sunday and Wednesday exclusively for movement of government forces convoys and there would be a complete ban on civilian traffic on the highway during these two days from 4 AM to 5 PM. This prohibition would be from Baramulla through Srinagar, Qazigund, Jawahar-Tunnel, Banihal and Ramban till Udhampur.
