Barely an hour after the PDP leaders hit the streets in Srinagar against the highway ban, the former chief minister of J&K and national conference president Farooq Abdullah staged a protest at Sanat Nagar Chowk in Rawalpora Srinagar.

Dr Farooq along with his supporters reached the Sanat Nagar and protest against the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with rest of the world.

In Wanpoh area of Anantnag district in South Kashmir, NC’s Parliamentary Candidate Justice Hasnain Masoodi along with senior party leaders Peer Hussain and Abdul Majeed Larmi besides scores of workers have staged a sit-in protest and protest rally against the government’s decision.

During the protest, leaders also raised slogans against the government banning the movement of civilian traffic on the highway.

Earlier, the NC’s Vice president who was heading towards the Uri area of Baramulla district today termed it a “mindless” order because of its inconveniences which lead people to suffer.

“Driving to Uri I’m getting to see first hand the extent of disruption & inconvenience that is being caused to people because of the mindless highway closure order that is in place today,” Omar tweeted.

Pertinently, the history’s first bi-weekly highway lockdown started from wee hours of Sunday. An eyewitness said that there was no movement of civil traffic witnessed except the government forces convoy movement.
