SRINAGAR: A Mumbai based readymade garments company was penalized by officials of Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Kashmir for levying extra VAT of 5 percent on discounted prices.
It was said that Deputy Controller of the Department received a complaint that a uptown trader was offering 40 percent discount on the readymade garments and then was charging 5percent extra VAT. Following which a team of Legal Metrology Officers investigated the complaint and found that online billing was done by a Mumbai based company and the retailer was not responsible for the unfair practice.
Subsequently, a legal notice was served to the company and Rs 15000 was fined as on the company with an undertaking to stop this practice immediately.
