KISHTWAR

Government Degree College Kishtwar which was established way back in 1986 is in “total shambles”. The aim of establishing such an institution was to make education available at the doorsteps of people but the fact is: it’s still a dream as no such infrastructure, vacant posts of professors, accounts assistants and other staff has badly hampered the functioning of college.

“The condition of GDC Kishtwar is at its worst, college ground is full of bushes and has turned to be full of potholes, there is no toilet facility for the students, drinking water is again unhygienic, no infrastructure, most of the staff being contractual hampers the well-being of studies in the college,” one of the students said.

For over 1200, students there are only few class rooms that too being taught on rotational basis due to shortage of class rooms leading to loss of precious time and free roaming of students in the campus, students added.

“As a matter of fact, the Degree College is not having the medical and non-medical blocks, these courses were started more than 15 years ago but till now no building for such subjects has been constructed. This is totally a failure on the part of Jammu University and state government authorities,” the student said.

Locals demanded introduction of more subjects at the earliest so that local students doesn’t suffer anymore and demanded that a women college be sanctioned for Kishtwar and fulfilment of all the posts at college, that too permanent staff.
