Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani has been invited to participate in a Kashmir related International conference on May 27 to be held in Birmingham. The dignitaries affiliated to NGO, eminent political leaders and ambassadors from different countries are schedule to attend said conference.

While accepting the invitation Geelani has agreed to attend the summit in Bermingham.

As per a statement issued Tuesday, party spokesman Ayaz Akbar has said, “Geelani has accepted invitation and European Parliament in its invitation has made it clear that the forum while supporting the just cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is striving and favours for peaceful and lasting resolution of Kashmir imbroglio. The union in its letter while extending full moral support to people of Jammu and Kashmir has urged the settlement of the issue through peaceful means.”

The statement further reads that Geelani would leave for Birmingham in 3rd week of May provided the authorities issue the necessary travel documents. Earlier, Geelani has attended international conference in 1981 and since then the separatist leader did not attend any conference because the authorities denied passport. “Though once in 2007 keeping in views the complicated surgery the authorities provided travel documents and since USA denied the visa and due to the expiry of documents the administration are reluctant in providing  fresh  documents”,  added spokesman in his statement.

Spokesman while putting a question mark for Indian democracy added, “Authorities are afraid of his unambiguous stand with respect to Kashmir dispute and do not want that outside word to become aware about the grave situation prevailing in Kashmir.”

While castigating the Indian authorities’ spokesman further added, “Administration has no right to deprive a person from his fundamental rights and right of travel.”

In his appeal to European Union Spokesman urged to take their cognizance and impress India to do away with all impediments and issue travel documents to Geelani.
