Questioning India’s moral right to observe republic day in the state, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has called for complete shutdown on January 26.

While paying rich tributes to martyrs of Gaw Kadal,Handwara and Kupwara  Geelani has appealed people to observe shutdown in adjoining areas  on 21,25,and 27th January to commemorate those “brutally killed by forces”

Geelani in his appeal to international bodies has urged them to investigate the gruesome incidents and carnages and take action against those forces  involved in war crimes as per norms and law.

“India celebrates 26thJanuary as republican day but has no moral or constitutional right to celebrate the same in Jammu and Kashmir as it has deprived their right and denied the right to self-determination to people of Jammu and Kashmir. Neither we  as a nation have any sort of  prejudice or keep enmity against India or its people, nor we dislike its fortune ,but it has never honoured its word with regards to referendum  in Jammu and Kashmir”, said Geelani  in a statement from New Delhi.

“We wish that our demand with regards to self-determination be accorded  due regard and people be provided an opportunity to express their aspiration with regards to their political destiny and future”

Geelani said that by denying this right India has proved that its claims to be a great democracy is nothing but mere  hoax. “India has occupied the state by dint of force and has adopted un democratic approach to continue its unconstitutional occupation. India   cannot justify the exercise of observing the republic day because of its forced occupation of the state”, he added.

In his appeal for complete shutdown on the day, Geelani impressed people, school children and their parents for complete boycott of the celebrations.

While recalling the gruesome killings by Indian forces, Geelani added that during last two decades hundreds and thousands of innocent people were  massacred including more than one hundred people brutally  killed in  Gaw Kadal  on 21th,Handwara on 25th  and Kupwara on 27th January.

Geelani has called people to observe complete shutdown on the respective dates in adjoin areas .
