Terming the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as the main cause of conflict between India and Pakistan, Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has stressed both the nations to solve the dispute according to the wishes and aspirations of people.
He said that until the Kashmir dispute is not solved between the two nuclear armed nations, there would be no de-escalation of tension on borders and the region would continue to be mired in conflict.
Addressing a large gathering at Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz expressed concern over the worsening human rights situation in Kashmir. He appealed international rights organizations to take strong notice of the violations being committed by the Indian forces in Kashmir. “More than Nine thousand five hundred people have been subjected to enforced disappearances in Kashmir by the Indian troops in the past few years,” Mirwaiz said, adding, “More than 6300 unmarked graves have been discovered so far in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, 60 unmarked graves were spotted in Srinagar and Budgam districts”.
APHC Chairman said that DNA profiling of the bodies in the unmarked graves should be carried out to ascertain the identity of the people buried there.
He said that hundreds of Kashmiri youth living under subhuman conditions, in outside jails, interrogation centers and special jail cells was an eye opener for the international rights organizations to intervene. He said the authorities have imprisoned Kashmiris on fake charges despite courts have ordered their release from the jails.
Mirwaiz took a dig at the International organizations including United Nations informing they are attaining a criminal silence over the tense situation prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir.
He also castigated the state government for adding woes to the already existing problems of people. He said that the administration has failed to fix the day to day issues of Kashmiris.
Mirwaiz further said those people who claim that normalcy has returned are the main source of suffering for the Kashmiris. He said in these times of bitter cold, Kashmiris are suffering on account of non availability f power, water and cooking gas.
Mirwaiz also appealed trade fraternity to desist from stockpiling food items and thus putting the commoners in trouble. He suggested them to be steadfast and follow the teachings of the prophet Mohammad (SAW) in this sacred month of Islamic calendar by providing relief and help to people.
