The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday strongly condemned district administration for its demolition drive against 18 residential houses of Pandit community at Habbakadal.

Geelani said the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on one hand politicizes the issue of migrants Pandits and on the other hand one of his MLAs’ while influencing the local authorities has demolished Pandit residential houses without serving any prior notice to their proprietors.

Geelani said, Pandit community is a part of our society and we share responsibility to protect the property and lands of those migrated outside state. Syed Ali Geelani during his  meeting with Pandit delegation, said that while  administration is morally and legally bound to protect life and property of minority community ,however reveres is the case in our state and  it has failed and  proved  a biggest threat for people. He said that incidents like that of Markundal and Gool are repeated one after the other and innocent and unarmed civilians are being killed brutally and on the other hand the residential houses are demolished without the consent of their proprietors . While lamenting at administration Geelani declared it a worst type of miss governance.

Geelani said that clandestine demolishing has conveyed a wrong message about freedom movement and minorities outside state that they are not safe in Muslim dominated state and are forcibility deprived of their land and property. He assured of his full moral support and added that we won’t play any folly or politics over this issue. It is the greatness of our religion and as per commandments of Islam that we are obliged to honour minorities. The Pandit delegation thanked Hurriyat chairman for his the moral support and in a unanimous voice  said that they salute selfless service provided by him  and added that they are  grateful for his moral support and were all praise  and fascinated for his consistent  approach. The members from minority community complained that the demolishing was done on the dictates of Local MLA and space allotted for shopping complex to his favourites. When they approached the concern MLA they were rebuked and asked to see the relief commissioner. They added that when they did not want to dispose of their prosperities then what is the fun to peruse the case or seek compensation for demolished structures. They told that neither the demolishing was done for construction of road nor for road widening. They said it was better option for administration to allot these houses to those members of Muslim community who lack residential facilities and added that for this purpose they could have provided their consent with great pleasure. They said however, the manner administration played a foul with them, in no case they would accept this.
