Indra Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is likely to introduce the courses of Kashmiri Language and Literature as one of the subjects.

Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) in a statement has expressed gratitude to Prof Muhammad Aslam, Vice-Chancellor IGNOU for considering the request of introducing courses about Kashmiri language and literature through his university. Prof Aslam made the assurance at an interactive session organised by AMK in the auditorium of Radio Kashmir Srinagar.

The Central University of Kashmir presided over the function. Bashir Arif, Deputy Director General Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Muhammad Shafi Pandit and Dr Aziz Hajni shared the presidium with Prof Aslam who was chief guest of the event. Pertinently Prof Aslam is a noted academician from Kashmir who recently took over the position of the Vice-Chancellor IGNOU. He was felicitated on the occasion by the AMK.

Meanwhile, in a meeting of its Executive members and the Advisory Board, it was decided that AMK will formulate a Vision Document to give further impetus to the “language movement.” The meeting also discussed the recently held Annual Conference and expressed satisfaction over its positive outcome. The meeting observed that AMK made history by bringing on a common platform all political opinions of the State, who were unanimous about promoting and preservation of Kashmiri language and culture. It was however maintained that AMK will continue to function as an apolitical literary federation whose only objective is protection and promotion of Kashmiri language, literature and culture.
