Congratulating Fayaz Kaloo, Masood Hussain, Tahir Mohi-ud-din, Bashir Manzar, Haroon Rashid, Shafat Kira and others for being elected president, Secretary General and other office bearers of Editors Guild, respectively, Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani said that in conflict zones media has a tremendous responsibility to portray the pain and agony of the wounded masses in its realistic perspective.

In a statement, Geelani said that higher positions are always seen with great expectations and deep dip of sincerity. “Our long and tiresome journey to our freedom too has seen sweet and sour tastes of media,” he said.

“Our journalistic fraternity and media houses have to traverse a rough path, of a two edged sword, especially for the last 27 years of armed unrest, but they have tried their best to propagate our ethos to the world outside through their news items, editorials, columns, videos, write-ups, images, and cartoons, for which whole nation owe them their sincere thanks,” Geelani said while hailing  the efforts of media persons in general and its office bearers in particular.

Geelani further said said that they hopefully will continue to own and feel the miseries of the suffering nation and live up to their professional standards and credentials in future as well.
