Virtually banning Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani’s “peoples contact program” police on Friday, did not allow the octogenarian separatist leader to visit Bandipora.

Geelani, was scheduled to address a public meeting in the north town after Friday prayers.

“Geelani Sahab was detained in his house at Hyderpora, and not allowed to move out,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, told Kashmir Life adding “Omar government has practically surrendered before Geelani.”

Akbar further said that people in Bandipora were protesting against house arresting of Geelani, so a delegation headed by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, general secretary, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai was sent to Bandipora to pacify the situation but the delegation was arrested on the way. “The arrested included Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Mohammad Altaf Shah and Mohammad Yousuf Mujahid,” Akbar said.
