The regional Passport Officer Srinagar has given 5th June 10:15 am as appointment date to the Chairman Hurriyat Syed Ali Geelani for completion of the required formulates with regarding to his travel documents for which he had earlier submitted his online application form.

“Geelani Sahab, however, continues to remain under house arrest and the heavy police deployment have been made around his residence,” a Hurriyat (G) statement said Thursday evening.

Notably, Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani along with his family members had submitted application forms in the passport office located in Srinagar in the month of May 2015 for the want of travel documents and application fee in this regard was also paid on 21 May.

“His other family members also went to the passport office for the necessary formulates but due to his house detention, Geelani Sahab is unable to visit there and have not completed the remaining formulates with regarding to the travel documents,” the statement informed.

Hurriyat spokesman recalled the statement of the police in this regard that they would allow Geelani Sahab to visit the passport office with a condition that he will not be set free from the house arrest process and he will be under the custody of the police along all this process but hurriyat conference out rightly rejected this offer and informed the government in clear words that Geelani Sahab will not follow the police dictation and he will not visit anywhere in the police custody.

Criticizing the statements of some Indian politicians and Omar Abdullah, Hurriyat statement “rejected this view that Geelani Sahab actually doesn’t want to go to the passport office and he has no interest in passport”.

The statement said, “it is just a hypothesis and it has nothing to do with the reality. There can be differences in many issues with Geelani Sahab but his enemies too agree that he is an honest and straight forward person and he doesn’t believe in any type of devious politics.”

The statement said that the passport officer has fixed 10:15 AM time on 5 June for the appointment of Geelani and “if he is set free even 5 minutes before this time, he will definitely visit the passport office and will complete the remaining formalities with regarding to his travel documents.”
