Authorities on Wednesday tried to foil the seminar of Hurriyat (G) when police did not allow anybody to enter the Hyderpora residence of Hurriyat Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani where the octogenarian separatist leader has been going under house detention since March 16 this year. Geelani later lead a protest sit in with Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan and others before leading everybody to his residence.

“Heavy deployment of police was put in place not only on the main gate of Geelani’s residence but on the Airport road as well and the men in uniform did not allow anybody to move towards the venue,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman told Kashmir Life.

Police sources said that they were directed not to allow anybody to enter the residence of Geelani so they implemented the orders.

As the day proceeded and police did not allow the participants including Shabir Shah and Nayeem Khan to enter the venue of the seminar, dozens of Hurriyat (G) activists protested by raising slogans against what they called “undemocratic attitude of the authorities.”

In the meantime Geelani also defying the house arrest came out of his residence and joined Shah, Khan, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and the other protesting people and lead a sit in on the Airport road. He addressed the protesters before leading them to his residence.

Pertinently, Hurriyat (G) had announced that it will organize a daylong seminar Wednesday, at Hyderpora with its chairman Syed Ali Geelani in chair in memory of 128 innocents who were killed in 2010.

The seminar was scheduled to start at 10.30 a.m. A book written on 2010 killings was also to be released on the occasion.
