A day after Hurriyat hawk, Syed Ali Geelani claimed that National Conference and Congress rigged the 1987 elections thereby denying political space to genuine candidates, National Conference legislator Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal said that Geelani is not blaming but he is raising finger over the integrity of Election Commission which is an autonomous body.
“Why Geelani is always after National Conference and why he is hell-bent to tarnish our image. It is not NC which supervises and conducts elections. Had it been the job of NC then Omar Abdullah would have never lose from Ganderbal Constituency in 2002 Assembly Elections,” Kamal told CNS and added that why Geelani did not pitch for election boycott call in 1987 as it is giving today.
Coming down heavily on Syed Ali Geelani, NC Additional General Secretary said that he has lost the support of people as he always targets NC. “Soon after the 1987 elections, at least 12 Petitions were filed in the Court of Law against the alleged rigging. Those petitions were looked and scrutinized by then Law Minister Pyare Lal Handoo and all were found wrong,” he said adding that Geelani always try to defame NC in the name of 1987 Elections.
Sheikh Mustafa Kamal told CNS that Geelani is finding ways and means to disrupt the peace in Kashmir Valley. “This man (Geelani) is responsible for all the woes and worries of Kashmir people. He does not want development and progress in Kashmir but is dying to see people get killed in the name of Freedom from India,” he said.
Kamal claimed that Geelani has lost faith amoung people and he does not carry any support from the people of Srinagar city. “Geelani postponed Srinagar rally because he knows it well that nobody is going turn up in his programme. Geelani knows it well that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has strong base in Srinagar and his Srinagar Rally could prove a flop show,” he said adding that Government did not force him to postpone Srinagar programme but he did it himself to save his credibility.
