One Assistant Sub Inspector of CRPF died and a constable sustained injuries when suspected militants opened firing on a Road Opening Party (ROP) of 29th battalion CRPF in Nowgam area of the city Wednesday afternoon.

“One CRPF man among two injured passed away,” Inspector General of Police Kashmir range, A G Mir told Kashmir Life.

Sources confirmed the death of ASI Udit Narayan and injury of Constable Surrender Singh in the firing incident.

They added that extra CRPF and Police personnel searched for the attackers in the around locality but nobody was arrested.

They said that the suspected militants fired upon the CRPF party from a close range and fled the area.

Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Life that they heard few fire shots followed by many more from the CRPF men around and everybody ran for life.

Police spokesman confirmed the firing incident but did not give any details.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in the whole city following the incident.
