Hurriyat (g) leader Syed Ali Geelani continued to remain under house detention and was denied to have his Friday prayers. Third time in a row this Ramadan, this Friday was his 12th time in 2016 when he was forcibly kept away from the mosque.

While strongly condemning the government actions, Hurriyat (g) spokesman said it is not only sheer injustice and grave human rights violation but also a great sin to stop a person from prayers and religious duties.

Hurriyat Secretary General Shabir Shah has said that his political activities have been completely banned by the government ever since he joined Geelani.

While terming the imprisonment of JKLF leaders Yasin Malik, Bilal Siddiqi, Hakeem Abdul Rasheed and Showkat Ahmad Bakshi in Srinagar central jail and the continuous house imprisonment of Hurriyat deputy Secretary General Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji as state terrorism and unjustified, Hurriyat (g) said that these leaders are being held illegally. They are in illegal imprisonment in the name of preventive detention and the Tehsildar Srinagar although can’t legally deny their bails but whenever he is being approached for that purpose, he simply leaves the office to avoid the situation, the alliance said.

Hurriyat (g) has accused “RSS backed PDP government” of converting the state into a major jail with Mehbooba Mufti launching a war against the pro-freedom people. PDP election manifesto had promised political freedom and space, the spokesman has said regretting that “doors of prisons were opened only to imprisoned more people without any justifications.”

The spokesman demanded the release of all political prisoners including Masarat Alam Bhat, Ameer Hamzah Shah, Mohammad Yousuf Lone, Mir Hafizullah, Shakeel Ahmad Yatoo, Abdullah Nasir, Hakeem Showkat Ahmad, Molvi Abdul Ahad Sopore, Mohammad Amin Parray, Assadullah Parray, Mehraj-ud-din Nandah, Fayaz Ahmad Dass, Ashiq Hussain Narchoor, Ishfaq Ahmad Quotwal, Adil Ahmad Wagay, Danyal Ismaiel And Zubair Ahmad Turray before Eid.

The spokesman reminded teh Chief Minister of her stand in Omer Abdullah era when she used to condemn the continuous detention of Geelani. Now, when she came into power, she break all the previous records of cruelty and oppression and instead of setting Geelani free, she increased the police force around his residence, the spokesman alleged.

Geelani is restricted to his home since 2010 but the spokesman said his detention in 2016 is stricter than before. Now no media related person is allowed to meet him and the police personals standing outside the residence maltreats every persons carrying a camera, the spokesman alleged.

The spokesman accused the government of making “fanatic type of additions” in Geelani’s imprisonment like the police vehicle which stands blocking the main entrance gate has been painted white which looks like a mobile clinic or dispensary. The word ‘Police’ has also been painted white, he added.

Spokesman said that now cops are not only deployed outside the house of Geelani but a special police force in civvies has been spread all over the mohalla. (KNS)
