Syed Ali Geelani (14)Syed Ali Geelani, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) on Sunday said that instead of motivating India for talks and concessions, Pakistan should try to garner support of the world community in order to take Kashmir issue in general council of the United Nations.

“If you think the United Nations Security Council has failed to deliver, you should go for lobbyism around the world. Involve your embassies around the world and take the support of 57 members of Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) to convince other member countries of the UN so that you take the Kashmir issue in its general assembly for voting,” Geelani remarked.

The senior separatist leader ridiculed what he called Pakistan’s appeasement policy saying that Sir Creek and Siachen are the offshoots of Kashmir problem and Pakistan should not lower its prestige by bowing down before India. “You (Pakistan) always seem trying to invite Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to Pakistan. But let me make it clear to you that he is not going to offer you anything nor will his visit change anything. Unless you remains steadfast on your principle stand on Kashmir and mobilize public opinion nothing will help you,” Geelani remarked.

He also stated that efforts are being made by certain vested interests to weaken Pakistan’s stability. “The actions and activities of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan are anti Islamic and anti Pakistan but Pakistan should talk to them and refrain from using force against them. TTP is weakening Pakistan.”

Terming the present dispensation ‘corrupt from top to bottom’, Geelani, said that eradication of corruption slogans being given by the ruling parties in the state is just to hoodwink people in view of forthcoming elections.

Addressing a seminar organized a seminar titled “Kashmir Dispute in the historic perspective and UN Resolutions” dated 5th January 1949 held at his Hyderpora residence, Geelani said the much publicized report card of the state government is nothing but a political gimmick.

“Taking credit for constructions of roads, bridges, flyover or giving water to people is ridiculous. You have not extended any favours to the people but this you have done out of the money collected as taxes from the public. The government which is neck deep in corruption says it has launched ‘Jihad’ against corruption is contradictory,” Geelani  said while addressing the seminar.

He alleged that army and police in Kashmir are ‘propagating the culture of liquor and drugs’ among the youth. “National Conference, PDP, Congress, PC are responsible for these injustices,” he said while reiterating his poll boycott call.

He said people should not vote even if angels come and participate in elections. “On one side we  say freedom and on the other we favour pro Indian parties is an open contradiction which is an unforgivable sin. We will have to launch the poll boycott campaign making people aware about its repercussions. You have given lives but we now demand you to sit in your homes on the day of elections. This will be big sacrifice form the people,” Geelani remarked.

The seminar which was attended by heads of the constituents of the Hurriyat Conference, intellectuals, lawyers, writers and civil society members passed unanimous resolutions which include: “People of Jammu and Kashmir want United Nations to take earnest steps to resolve the dispute in accordance with international agreements between India, Pakistan, United Nations and community of Nation.” These resolutions said: “That early resolution of dispute is also imperative as India and Pakistan are both nuclear armed countries and prolonging the dispute further can cause a nuclear catastrophe.”

“That pending resolution of the dispute India is committing grave human  rights violations, which are tantamount to war crimes/ crimes against humanity with the sole purpose of suppressing people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the Hurriyat (G) resolution added.
