Expressing his deep sorrow, grief and shock over the killing of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat activist Shaikh Altaf-ul-Rehman of Sopore, Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani Tuesday has called for complete shutdown tomorrow in the Baramullah district.

“There is hand of the Indian secret agencies behind the killing of Sheikh Altaf,” Geelani said in a statement, “and by this way, they actually want to frighten and terrorize the people who are on the forefront of the freedom struggle of Kashmir.”

On the directions of Geelani, a Tehreek-e-Hurriyat delegation immediately rushed to Sopore where they participated in the funeral prayers of the deceased, Hurriyat (G) spokesperson said.

While remembering the contribution of Shaikh Altaf in the “freedom struggle” of Kashmir, Geelani said the deceased was a pro-freedom person from his childhood who spent years in the jails.

“His whole family has affected by the freedom movement and his younger brother Shaikh Abdul Rouf was killed by the army some 20 years back when he was returning from Aligarh University to the Valley,” Geelani said.

While terming this incident as the “handiwork of the Indian secret agencies”, Geelani said immediately after the statement of Indian defense minister Manohar Parrikar in which he said that “terrorism will be eliminated by terrorism and a process of target killings will start in Kashmir”, a mysterious killing process started here and which resulted the loss of many precious human lives in this short span of time.

He said that the new Indian govt is on the dictation of RSS and they have started a well planned process of killing the common people in the Valley.

“They have every kind of state machinery at their disposal and they want to suppress the freedom struggle of Kashmir by their military power and for this purpose they are ready to cross any limit,” Geelani said. “However, these kinds of actions will not deter us and until a single solider of India is present in Jammu & Kashmir, our struggle will continue in any way and at any cost.”
