Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geeani’s 235 day long house detention ended on Tuesday when police wrapped its tent which was erected months before outside the residence of the octogenarian separatist leader. Police also took away its vehicle which was put just in front of the gate of Geelani’s residence in order to stop his vehicle to come out.

“Yes, we have called back the personnel who were in Hyderpora, outside the residence of Geelani,” a police officer told Kashmir Life.

Sources said that Police personnel left the area during the night at 10:45 PM.

A senior police officer informed KL that a decision to end the house arrest of Geelani was taken by district magistrate on Monday afternoon who had earlier ordered his (Geelani’s) house arrest.

Hurriyat Conference (G) Spokesman, Ayaz Akbar also confirmed the ending of house detention of Geelani. “We came to know in the morning that the police personnel had left the area,” he said.

Geelani, was put under house arrest on March 7, this year when he returned from New Delhi.

“Geelani was twice allowed to go for medical checkup during this period only under police custody,” Akbar said.

He added, “Thanks to Almighty Allah that the oppressive measures of the so called rulers finally lost to Geelani’s patience.”
