Police on Wednesday prevented Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani to lead a ‘peace march’ in old city by not allowing him to go out of his sieged residence.

“Police on early morning had seized the Hurriyat office and did not allow the veteran leader to lead peace march,” said a statement issued by the spokesman of the Hurriyat.

Police didn’t allow Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani to go out of his residence. He was supposed to lead a ‘peace march’ in old city today.

“Geelani Sahib was scheduled to visit old city, Srinagar to lead a peace march aimed at creating unity between the two communities and clearing the misconception between the two but authorities had placed a large contingent of police outside his residence and did not allow him to go out,” Spokesman said in a statement,” adding “Despite repeated attempts Geelani was not allowed.”
