SRINAGAR: The BJP has nominated Ghulam Ali Khatana to the Rajya Sabha. The Gujjar BJP leader is an engineer and has been associated with the party for around 14 years.
Ghulam Ali is a resident of Bathindi in Jammu. He has served BJP’s ST Cell and has the status of state spokesperson. His nomination to the Upper House has been made by filling a vacancy by the President on recommendations of the Government.
Jammu and Kashmir lacks any representation in the Rajya Sabha and it did not participate in the election of the president because it lacks an assembly. Khatana’s nomination to Rajya Sabha is being seen as a major political message.
