SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer, Hardesh Kumar has been transferred. He has been appointed as the Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India for a five-year term.

Kumar will replace Umesh Sinha, an IAS officer of the 986 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre.

Kumar’s recent statement about the inclusion of 25 lakh voters during the summary revision of electoral rolls, including the non-local voters, has triggered a storm in the political class of Jammu and Kashmir.

Kumar is an IAS officer the  of 1999 batch of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir cadre, now AGMUT.
