Girl allegedly raped in Ganderbal, accused arrested: Police


A youth has been arrested by police for allegedly raping a minor girl in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, police said on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “On Sunday evening 12/05/2019 one report was received at Police station Ganderbal about the commission of rape of a teenager girl at village Harran, Ganderbal. The accused belongs to the same vicinity.”

“Accordingly F.I.R No. 98/2019 U/S 451/376 RPC section 04 POSCO Act registered at Police station Ganderbal,” said the spokesman.

“Subsequently to it Police team rushed to the spot arrested the accused person namely Muhammad Aasif Wani age 20 years son of Muhammad Maqbool Wani a resident of New colony Harran, Ganderbal,” he said.

“As a part of the investigation, the victim has been medically examined. A special team has been constituted to fast-track the investigation of the case in a professional manner,” said the spokesman.

Earlier a 3-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a young man in Sumbal area of Bandipora, who has already been arrested by the police.

The incident has already sent tens of thousands of people on the road. There were dozens of protests reported from across Kashmir.
