Intense clashes erupted on Tuesday afternoon outside Amar Singh College Srinagar as soon as the students staged protests against the Sumbal rape incident.
Reports said that the students of Amar Singh College staged massive protests inside the campus and tried to come out of the college premises.
“As soon as the students took to the main road, police and para-military forces deployed there intercepted the protesters triggering clashes,” witnesses told Kashmir Life.
They said police used tear smoke, pepper gas shells to disperse the protesting students who kept pelting stones and bricks on the forces.
Clashes were going on in the area when reports last came in.
Meanwhile, reports of student clashes also came from Government Degree College Bemina.
The students assembled in the premises of the college and held protests, demanding death to the culprit.
Chanting slogans to demand to hang the culprit, the students came out of the college premises and staged a sit-in on road.
Police swung into action and chased away protesting students who retaliated with stones. The clashes between police and students disrupted vehicular movement for some time.
