SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday ordered a change in the administrative setup of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, assigning the additional charge of Principal to Prof (Dr) Junaid Salam Wani with immediate effect.
According to Government Order No. 439-JK (HME) of 2026 dated June 1, Prof Wani, who is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at GMC Srinagar, will hold the additional responsibility of Principal GMC Anantnag along with his existing duties.
The order states that the arrangement has been made in the interest of improved administration and patient care, and will remain in force until further instructions from the government.
As part of the order, Prof (Dr) Rukhsana Najeeb, Professor of Anaesthesiology, has been directed to report back to GMC Srinagar immediately.
The decision was issued by the Health and Medical Education Department under the authority of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
