Two weeks after an attack on Kashmiri truckers in Udhampur, goons attacked a Jammu Kashmir Bank employee from Kishtwar in the same town on Friday evening.

Narrating his ordeal, Junaid Hussain Malik, a resident of Kishtwar, who is posted at Zonal Office of Jammu Kashmir Bank in Udhampur told CNS that his private vehicle (JK02A-0852) was intercepted by four goons near Adarsh Colony. “The goons with swords and rods first smashed the windshields of my vehicle and then dragged me out. As they came to know about my (Muslim) name, they were infuriated and hit me with rods. Robbery and loot was not their motive as they didn’t take away cash that I was carrying with me but they just wanted to finish me,” Malik said.

He said, “after dragging me from the vehicle they started kicking and hitting me. A masked youth carrying sword in his hand came closer to me but fortunately a biker passed through the road and the light of the bike forced them to take cover. I took advantage and fled from the spot. I hid myself behind a building of a showroom and called my colleague who advised me to stay there.

“After half an hour I observed the movement of some people and while spotting a Muslim clerk who was coming out from a grave yard, I mustered courage and went to the spot of incident. The goons were not there and I drove my vehicle and parked it outside DC office Udhampur. My colleague reached their and took me to a safer place,” Malik said adding that he narrated the whole episode to police and they filed a case and assured that goons will be identified and booked.

Malik further said that some zealots were present outside Udhampur Masjid when the Muslims after Friday prayers protested against the desecration of Holy Qur’an. “I too offered Friday prayers there and when I came out I found some youth surrounding my vehicle. I am sure they were the same youth who made an attempt on my life.” He said that the spot of incident is few meters away from the same spot of incident at Shivnagar where petrol bomb was lobbed on the Kashmiri truckers.

“I have informed Bank authorities about the incident,” he said.

When contacted a police official said that they have registered a case vide FIR number 389/2015 under section 341, 323, 147 in this regard and a hunt has been launched to nab the culprits.
