SRINAGAR:The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) on Tuesday formally ordered summer vacation for all government and recognised private schools up to the Higher Secondary level across the Kashmir Division from July 6 to July 19, 2026, following approval from the competent authority.
The order, issued under Order No. 243-DSEK of 2026 dated June 30, 2026, states that all government and recognised private schools functioning in the Kashmir Division shall observe summer vacation with effect from July 6 to July 19.
Earlier in the day, Director of School Education Kashmir, Naseer Ahmad Wani, had told the media that the government’s approval had been received for the summer break in view of the prevailing heatwave.
The decision comes amid rising temperatures across the Valley and follows demands from parents and other stakeholders for an early summer break to safeguard the health and well-being of students.
Schools are scheduled to reopen on July 20, 2026, unless any further changes are announced by the government.
