SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday asserted that the BJP-led government in power in Kashmir subjected citizens to extreme difficulties in the name of militancy.

“Arrests are being made on a daily basis, while monitoring and surveillance continue. Amidst all this no one is permitted to speak,” Mehbooba said after addressing a gathering party workers in Larnoo Kokernag in South Kashmir.

Regarding the dismissal of government employees, the former chief minister stated that since 2019, the government has fired more people than it has hired.  “The government is functioning as its own judge, agent, and court.  It is a collective punishment for Kashmiri people as they think Kashmiris are their enemies,” she added.

In response to rumors that Jamaat-e-Islami was responsible for the PDP’s formation, Mehbooba stated that the organization had endured a great deal of hardship and was carrying out excellent humanitarian work by operating affordable, high-quality schools.

“When Mufti Muhammad Sayeed became CM for the first time, he worked for the welfare of people affiliated with Jamaat and others. They had left their homes due to various issues so that they can live their life with respect,” She said. “I am very much surprised why A teams and B teams have been making an issue of Jamaat-e-Islami.”
