The Minister for Horticulture, Hajj & Auqaf,  Abdul Rehman Veeri said that a proposal for creation of 4 new Police Stations at Bhanderkot, Drabshalla, Padyarna, Kishtwar (North) and  re-designation of the existing Police Station, Kishtwar as Police Station Kishtwar (South)  is under examination in the Home Department.

The Minister while replying on behalf of Minister for Home to a clubbed question by Sajad Ahmad Kichloo and Mr Sham Lal Bhagat in the Legislative Council today said that 25,474 SPOs are working in the J&K Police and are being paid a monthly honorarium of Rs 3000 per SPO.

“The honorarium of SPOs is reimbursed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs under Security Related Expenditure (SRE) and a proposal for enhancement of the honorarium of SPOs from existing Rs 3000 to Rs 6000 per month has been submitted to the Union Ministry for approval and is being pursued by the State Government,” the Minister added.

Veeri said that the State Government has already notified a comprehensive policy in the year 2009 for absorption/conversion of SPOs as Constables/Followers. He said under this policy, 2376 SPOs have been converted as Constables/Followers till date.

Replying to an another question raised by Showkat Hussain Ganie, the Minister said that no prisoner hailing from the State of Jammu and Kashmir has been sent  by the J&K Government for lodgement under PSA in any Jail outside the State.
