Scores of Telbal residents shook press lane on Wednesday by protesting against grabbing of graveyard allegedly by government.
The protesting residents said that Tehsildar and Naib-Tehsildar Shalimar area have “grabbed” land which is being used as graveyard by them at Murinder Bagh, Gandlat in Telbal area.
“Pathwari named Manzoor Ahmad and Naib-Tehsildar, Ghulam Nabi have sold our community graveyard, illegally to sons of one Bashir-ud–din Shah of Jawahar Nagar,” the protesting residents said.
While trying to enter the grave yard, for offering Fateh, “one of the locals was stopped by chowkidar from entering into the graveyard”.
“This is when the whole neighbourhood came to know that our community graveyard has been sold to some NRKs, currently living in USA,” said Abdul Rashid one of the residents of Murinder Bagh.
People of the area said that the “deal” of transferring the land was made “without their knowledge”. “The incidence shows surge of ‘Land Mafia’ at the local level,” alleged Farooq Ahmad a local.
