Minister of Rural Development Department Abdul Haq Wednesday made a statement in the House regarding yesterday’s incident at Jammu, an official spokesperson said early this afternoon.

The Minister said, “On 14th June 2016, at about 1630 hours, Police Station, Janipur received reliable information that one person, namely Yasir S/O Khair Din R/O Shiva, Doda entered into Aap Shambo Temple at Upper Roop Nagar Jammu and tried to cause damage to the said temple and defile the place of worship. Upon this, the police party from P/S Janipur rushed to the spot and brought the said person to the Police Station.

In the meantime, some locals/Pujari of the temple tried to stop the police personnel from discharging their duties. Later on some locals of the area and Pujari started protesting in front of the P/S Janipur.

Subsequently, a large number of people gathered outside the P/S and started raising slogans, pelting stones and set on fire two Police School buses, seized vehicles (03 Maruti 800 & 01 Bike) and one scooty of a Head Constable parked outside the P/S.

Senior Officers from Civil and Police administration rushed to the spot to control the situation. The unruly mob was dispersed by resorting to mild lathi charge and tear smoke. Three police personnel of P/S Janipur including SHO P/S Janipur received injuries while trying to disperse the mob.

Two cases viz FIR No. 51/2016 U/S 295 RPC and FIR No. 52/2016 U/S 435/147/148/149/341/427/336/332 RPC have been registered at P/S Janipur and investigation initiated. Some accused persons have been arrested so far. The preliminary investigations suggest that the accused person who entered the temple is a lunatic patient.”

The issue was raised by BJP lawmaker Ravinder Raina and supported by a number of other members including Omar Abdullah and M Y Tarigami.

Haq said that the Chief Minister, Ms Mehbooba Mufti and Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh are in Jammu to oversee the situation following the Aap Shamboo temple incident in Roop Nagar.

The Minister said this in response to the issue raised by Omar Abdullah in the House during Question Hour.

Haq said that law and order agencies are working to ascertain the facts behind the incident.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta condemned the incident which occurred on June 14 at Aap Shamboo (Shiv Temple), Roop Nagar, falling under Janipur Police Station in Jammu.

The Speaker was responding to the issue raised by Ravinder Raina and other BJP legislators in the House during Question Hour.

The Speaker assured that law and order agencies are investigating the matter to ascertain the facts behind the incident. He appealed the people of Jammu to maintain peace and harmony.
