SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday announced that a discretionary grant of Rs 80 lakh has been allocated to the Chief Minister for the fiscal year 2025-26, while each cabinet minister has been allotted Rs 5 lakh for the same period.
The Government disclosed these allocations in response to the cut motion submitted by BJP MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta. It was further revealed that during the current financial year, Rs 50 lakh in discretionary grants have been allocated to the Chief Minister and Rs 2.5 lakh to each cabinet minister.
The discretionary grants are intended to enable the Chief Minister and cabinet ministers to provide financial assistance to organisations and initiatives aimed at addressing specific needs and promoting public welfare.
The Chief Minister has the authority to issue recurring grants to institutions and individuals engaged in activities that, in his opinion, enhance public well-being. Cabinet ministers, on the other hand, may provide non-recurring grants to charitable organisations and individuals on similar grounds. (KNO)
