In a significant development, the state government on Thursday gave nod to the Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Mathematical Sciences in order to encourage students of the state for taking up research in the field of Mathematical Sciences.

This will, be the third institute of its kind in the country after Bengal and Chenni. Official sources in the Higher education department told a local news agency, KNS that Minster for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar lone issued the formal orders in the afternoon according to which one crore rupees was transferred to the institute with immediate effect.

According to the order issued vide no. 265-HEof 2013 DTD. 06-06-2013, Principal Government degree college Sopore Prof Wali Mohammad Shah has been appointed as the Nodal Officer for the institute. The institute would also launch a five year integral course in Mathematics and the admissions would be done in the current month itself.

Meanwhile Kashmir Mathematical Society while appreciating the move has said that the Minster for Higher Education MA Lone in this regard were praise worthy.

“We thank Lone for this huge initiate,” a Society office bearer told KNS.
