Govt Reports 6.1 Percent Unemployment Rate in JK for 2023-24

   

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday said that the Union Territory’s unemployment rate for individuals aged 15 and above stands at 6.1 percent in 2023-24, as per the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

In response to a query by MLA Tanvir Sadiq, the government, informed that 3,70,811 unemployed youth had voluntarily registered on the employment portal by the end of January 2025.

The concerned minister said the government has implemented several self-employment schemes under initiatives like Mumkin, Tejaswini, Mission Youth, PMEGP, and REGP.

“These schemes have generated approximately 9.58 lakh self-employment opportunities since 2021. In the current fiscal year (2024-25), 1.36 lakh opportunities have been created,” he said.

Additionally, under the MGNREGA program, the government has generated 3.01 crore person-days of employment, benefiting 8.07 lakh households.

To further promote entrepreneurship and skill development, the government has launched Mission YUVA, an initiative aimed at establishing 1.35 lakh entrepreneurship units and creating employment for 4.5 lakh youth in JK.

“The department continues to promote skill development through specialised training programs to enhance self-employment opportunities. Regular job fairs are also held to connect job seekers with employers and encourage private sector employment,” he added—(KNO).
