The revised framework applies to vehicles specially designed and constructed for use by persons with physical disabilities and vehicles registered under the ownership type ‘Divyangjan’, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said.

Eligibility for exempted FASTags will be determined on the basis of the percentage of disability recorded in a valid Disability Certificate, Unique Disability Identity (UDID) Card or other applicable records, according to the revised guidelines.

The ministry said the changes are intended to make the National Highway tolling system more accessible, transparent and user-friendly for eligible beneficiaries.

The revised provisions are also aimed at ensuring that toll exemptions are administered in accordance with prescribed rules and eligibility requirements, while bringing greater uniformity to the issuance and renewal of exempted FASTags.

The framework further seeks to reduce repeated procedural formalities for eligible Divyangjan and PwD vehicle owners.
