Army said on Tuesday that it will remain more vigilant (LoC) to meet any challenges as the snow has started melting along the lower heights along the line of control.

“As far as the question of infiltration is concerned, the heights have heavy amount of snow but the snow has started melting at the lower heights. So, we think we need to be much more vigilant to be sure that no infiltration is allowed to take place into the Kashmir valley,” General Officer Commanding (GoC) 15 Corps Gen Subrata Sahu told media men on the sidelines of a function held at the BB cant this morning.

When asked about the number of militants in the Valley, Gen Sahu said that according to army’s estimates, 200 militants were active in the Valley.

Terming the killing of three policemen by militants in Shopian district on Monday as unfortunate, Gen Saha said that army will evolve extra security plans to stop such incidents in future.

When asked about army’s view on the controversial AFSPA, he said, army will share the opinion over the continuation or the revocation of the law with the state and the central governments.

Replying to another question over army’s take on the removal of AFSPA, the army commander said that the state and the central government were discussing this matter. Army, he said, will provide their inputs to the both governments.

When asked if the killing of the policemen in Shopian was a security breach or negligence on part of cops, Gen Sahu said that the time has not come yet to cut down the guard. Army, he said, will take a lesson from the Shopian incident.

“All these three jawans had gone for normal investigations duty into the village. There was some land dispute. They were unarmed and had gone for normal policing. They were not on any counter terrorism or anti-militancy operation. They took advantage and attacked them,” he said.

He said that the security agencies will continued the investigations in the case and get to those people who carried out this attack.
