SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has fixed deadlines for completing the remaining works on 6,000 flats being constructed for employees under the PM Package at 20 locations across Kashmir, with directions to hand over completed units to eligible employees in phases.
The decision was taken at a meeting held to review ongoing and new projects of the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRR&R), jointly chaired by Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works (R&B) Department, Anil Kumar Singh, and Principal Secretary, DMRR&R, Chandraker Bharti.
Officials informed the meeting that 5,176 of the 6,000 flats have been completed. Allied works, including installation of lifts, internal roads, drainage systems and community halls, are also nearing completion at most locations.
The meeting fixed specific timelines for completing the remaining works and handing over the flats. Officials were directed to ensure phased possession of completed flats to eligible employees according to allotments already made under government norms.
The meeting also reviewed repair and renovation works at migrant camps in Jammu. The government has approved Rs 82.45 crore for major repairs and renovation of various blocks, with tender formalities completed and work expected to begin shortly.
Officials were also directed to finalise a detailed project for upgrading infrastructure at migrant camps, including schools, health dispensaries, internal roads and parks.
The construction of the PoJK Bhawan at Suketar was also reviewed, with directions to complete the project in all respects within the current financial year.
The Chief Engineer, PW(R&B) Jammu, informed the meeting that the detailed project report (DPR) for additional flats for Kashmiri migrants at Purkhoo is being finalised. The Multipurpose Community Hall at Jagti, estimated to cost Rs 6.50 crore, has been completed.
For the current financial year, tendering is under way for new projects worth around Rs 20 crore at the Purkhoo, Nagrota, Muthi and Jagti migrant camps.
The government is also preparing DPRs for projects proposed for the next financial year, including e-learning centres, digital libraries and reading rooms, career counselling and guidance centres, skill development and vocational training centres, entrepreneurship facilitation centres, sports infrastructure, and solar power and water conservation projects.
The meeting was attended by the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M), J&K, chief engineers of PW(R&B) in North, Central and South Kashmir, Chief Engineer KPDCL, Chief Engineer PW(R&B) Jammu and senior officers from DMRR&R, Public Works, Jal Shakti and the divisional administration.
