SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir government issued a notice to Greater Kashmir that it was not in legal possession of its quarter and within hours of its receipt, the newspaper started shifting out from the premises. The newspaper has been operating from the Partap Park since the early nineties.

Newspaper publisher, Rashid Makhdoomi, confirmed that the newspaper was served a show-cause notice on November 18 by the Estates Department and they decided to vacate the quarter the same day.

The government has already stopped placing its advertisements with Greater Kashmir for more than the last two years.

Even before Greater Kashmir, the government had stopped advertisements to Kashmir Reader, another daily newspaper published from Srinagar, a ban that has not been lifted, so far.

Since September, Kashmir Life is also not getting any government advertisement. Early this week, the government stopped advertisements to Kashmir Images, another Srinagar based newspaper, as well. The newspaper editor recently wrote on Twitter that no reasons were given for the ban on advertisements to the newspaper.

Earlier, the government had evicted The Kashmir Times from the building allotted to it Srinagar in the same premises.
