SRINAGAR: Awantipora police arrested a JeM militant who lobbed a grenade at bus stand Tral in which three civilians lost their lives and 30 others were injured, a police spokesman said.

Acting on a specific information, Awantipora police along with 42 RR and 180 Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation at village Naristan Tral. During the search operation one militant Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Nabi resident of Nagbal Tral was apprehended. One Chinese pistol was recovered from his possession.

Dar, police said, has joined JeM terror outfit after hurling a grenade upon motorcade of Hon’ble R&B Minister at bus stand Tral in which 03 civilians were killed and 30 persons including 07 CRPF and 02 police personnel were injured.

During sustained questioning, he admitted that he hurled the grenade on the instructions of JeM commander Mufti Vikas resident of PAK and Noor Mohammad Tantray resident of Darganie Gund Tral.

Dar was earlier active with JeM outfit in 2014. Then, the spokesman said, he had lobbed a grenade at bus stand Tral in which 05 persons lost their lives on December 5, 2014. A case FIR number 121/2014 under section 307/RPC, 2/5 Exp. Substance already stands registered in Police Station Tral. He was arrested and released after 2 years in January 2017.

During further questioning, he admitted that his four associates (all foreigners) are hiding in a hideout in Pastuna forest Tral. Accordingly, a search operation was launched in the forest area. During searches, terrorists hiding in the hideout fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated but taking advantage of the dense forest, terrorists managed to escape from the hideout. The search operation is going on.

Meanwhile, police said, three beggar ladies who were mistaken as braid choppers were rescued by Srinagar police from Babademb area of Srinagar.

At about 1200 hours today Police Post Ban-Mohalla got information regarding the capturing of three beggar ladies (two unmarried girls in their teen ages and one married lady with a lactating baby) by some locals somewhere in Babademb area. On receiving this information, Police rushed to the spot and took the ladies to the office of the SDPO MahrajGunj. All the three ladies were in tremendous fear and shock and were weeping bitterly.

On inquiring in the presence of some locals, who were already present in the office, the elderly lady broke into tears and said that they are from Nagrota Jammu. As per her statement, the lactating baby in her lap has been suffering from some ailment and has been under treatment, she was begging for procuring food for her family. The other two girls were with her. Their bags were searched for hair cutting tools but nothing could be found.

Later on SHO MahrajGunj and DO Ban-Mohalla send off the ladies safely after necessary legal formalities. There was cooperation from the locals, the spokesman said.
