SRINAGAR: Suspected militants lobbed a grenade in Tral in which many persons were injured. The attack was actually thrown at PWD minister Naeem Akhter’s motorcade when it was moving through the town.

Reports said the grenade attack was carried out in the bus stand. Unconfirmed reports said there could be civilian casualties.

The grenade exploded on the road injuring various pedestrians. Unconfirmed reports said a pedestrian woman died almost instantly. “There is an old man who is very critical,” one eye witness told Kashmir Life on phone. “It is very difficult for him to survive.” Though a police source said he passed away but sources did not confirm the same so far.

“They lobbed a grenade at our motorcade and its splinters hit at least two of our vehicles,” an official accompanying the minister said. “One of our drivers was injured and two engineers have minor injuries.”

Officials said they are trying to move the injured out of town. The exact number of injured was still not known.

Police in Srinagar said they are trying to get the details. “We are unable to connect because the phone lines are busy,” one officer said. Naeem Akhter was reported to have visited the police station.

One unconfirmed report said the slain woman is Pinty Kour, a resident of Chitrgam.
