GST Enforcement Team in South Kashmir Realises Rs 2.62 Crore Penalty for Tax Violations

   

SRINAGAR: The GST Enforcement Team in South Kashmir has made a significant stride in tackling tax violations, imposing penalties amounting to Rs. 2.62 crore during the ongoing financial year 2024-2025.

The penalties were levied on traders involved in the illegal transportation of goods, contravening the GST Act and Rules. The enforcement actions have seen a notable increase in penalties, with a rise of 26 per cent compared to the previous financial year.

The enforcement campaign has seen impressive growth, with 46 per cent in the first quarter, 18 per cent in the second quarter, and 25 per cent in the third quarter. In particular, the months of April, July, and October 2024 experienced substantial growth of 182 per cent, 113 per cent, and 28 per cent, respectively, in penalties realized.

The enforcement activities, which were carried out across four districts in South Kashmir, focused on high-risk commodities such as metal scrap, cement, marble, plywood, timber, TMT bars, hardware items, motor parts, electrical goods, and readymade garments.

In addition to penalty impositions, over two lakh e-way bills were verified during the round-the-clock enforcement activities, marking a 45 per cent increase compared to the previous year, from April to November 2024.
