JAMMU: Relief Commissioner Arvind Karwani on Saturday revealed a comprehensive overview of the ongoing development at the Jagti Migrant Camp, highlighting the progress made in providing housing and community facilities for the residents. He revealed that 4,224 flats have been constructed for 5,131 families in the township, alongside 53 parks and 10 community halls available for the use of the camp’s residents.
Karwani offered details about plans to build a new mega two-story community hall, valued at approximately Rs 6.34 crore, aimed at further improving the amenities for the residents. Additionally, he shared that renovation and repair work on the flats would begin shortly, further enhancing the living conditions at the camp.
He was briefing the Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo who visited Jagti Migrant camp. He toured the Sub-District Hospital and Government Higher Secondary School located within the camp. He took first-hand notice of the available facilities and urged the hospital authorities to begin general anaesthesia-based surgeries promptly. Dulloo stressed the importance of upgrading public services in the hospital to reduce the need for referrals and to benefit both the camp residents and those in nearby areas.
At the Government Higher Secondary School, Dulloo assessed the staffing levels and subjects taught, directing authorities to ensure proper maintenance of the school and adequate provision of teachers for all subjects to provide a quality education.
During the public grievances camp, the Chief Secretary reiterated the government’s commitment to improving living conditions for the migrants, assuring the residents that their genuine concerns would be addressed in a time-bound manner. He encouraged the camp’s residents to register under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) to avail themselves of various social security benefits.
Dulloo also highlighted that the government was working on creating self-employment opportunities for youth through upcoming camps in partnership with local banks and emphasized that the completion of the digitization of migrant credentials would unlock access to numerous government schemes, including PM-KISAN.
The Principal Secretary of the DMRR&R Department, Chandraker Bharti, addressed the gathering, urging the migrants not to feel stigmatized, assuring them that they are integral members of the community. He outlined efforts by various government departments to improve water supply and sanitation services in the camp, ensuring better living conditions for all.
