SRINAGAR: The government has decided to set up a working group under the leadership of former finance minister and MP Muzaffar Hussain Beig to discuss the GST before it goes to the assembly for final deliberations, reports suggest. The group will have a member each from all the political parties.

Indications suggest the terms of reference and the composition of the group will be discussed in the state cabinet today that Chief Minister Ms Mufti will preside.

The all party group would discuss the possible conflict the 101 constitutional amendment could have with the state’s own constitution and powers of the state legislature. It will take suggestions from all the parties in a bid to create consensus.

The group’s constitution will interrupt the special session of the state assembly that is slated on Saturday. Sources said the house will meet but will take up obituary references. Then a meeting of the Business Advisory committee will take place that will take the decision about the next course of action. Indications suggest that the assembly session may have a few days of break till the Working Group finalizes its recommendations. The group will not have any minister as a member because it will be all party grouping.

The decision of having the Group was taken by Chief Minister in consultation with the BJP. It was taken because of the hardening of stand by various stake holders including the trade and the opposition. Trade has called a day long strike against GST implementation this weekend that coincides with the start of the special session.
