Srinagar

Curfew like restrictions were imposed in parts of old city of Srinagar on Wednesday to prevent protests against the proposed implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the state.

Locals said that a tight curfew is in place under five police stations of Khanyar, Nowhatta, Rainawari, MMR Gunj and Safakadal, with police and paramilitary forces patrolling the streets to foil any protests.
An official said that restrictions under Section 144 CrPc are in place in areas falling under five police stations in the Old city “as a precautionary measure”.
