Muttaheda Majlis-e-ulema on Thursday hailed the rejection of acquittal of fake faith healer Gulzar Ahmad Bhat alias Gulzar Peer by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and its order to send him to judicial custody.

Majlis spokesman, a religious organization headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement said that the stern punishment should be given to the accused as it will send a strong message to such elements in society who indulge in such heinous crimes and encourage those social and religious institutions fighting against these evils.

Lamenting the deterioration of the Kashmiri society, the party spokesperson called upon all the religious institutions, scholars, leaders, teachers and the intellectuals of the society to realize their responsibility and play their role in ending this current social degradation.

The party spokesperson also stated that only a society based on religious and moral values could guarantee a peaceful existence for its citizens, and to bring about this everyone in the community needs to comply with their duties.
