SRINAGAR: A gunfight broke out between militants and counterinsurgent forces in Chimmer village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday.
Reports said that a joint team of Army, CRPF and Jammu, and Kashmir police launched a cordon and search operation in Chimmer area of Kulgam after having credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon forces triggering an encounter.
When the last reports came intermittent firing was going on.
