SRINAGAR:  A gunfight broke out between the militants and the government forces in Meemandar village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday morning.

Reports said that the gunfight broke out after the forces launched a cordon and search operation in Meemandar following inputs about the presence of militants.

As the searches were going on, the militants opened fire, leading to a gunfight, said an official.

While confirming the news J&K Police took to official Twitter handle and wrote “Encounter is in progress at #Shopian. SFs on job. Further details shall follow.”
